About our Pastor

(Note - this assumes Dr Thomason is still Pastor of SWOBC)

Dr. David S. Thomason

Biographical Information

Dr. Thomason has been pastor of Southwest Oswego Baptist Church since November, 1999. His previous ministry experience includes 13 years of youth, music, bus, Sunday School, Christian School, visitation, and other various types of ministry.

Dr. Thomason was saved as a child after hearing the gospel as a bus kid. He had clearly heard the gospel several times at his church. One summer day, in his bedroom, he was thinking about Christ, salvation, and eternity. Alone in his room, he received Christ as his Savior. Due to these circumstances, he does not have a specific date; however, he remembers the incident clearly. He was later baptized by immersion. A few years later, at the age of 15, he surrendered to Gods call on his life to become a preacher.

His formal education comes from two schools. His doctorate was earned through Bethany Theological Seminary in Dothan, Alabama. You can visit their website at www.bethanybc.edu. He wrote his dissertation on A Historical Background to the Book of Daniel: A Study of the Major Kings of the Neo-Babylonian Empire. He received both his Bachelors and Masters Degrees from Pensacola Christian College in Pensacola, Florida. You can visit their website at www.pcci.edu.

Dr. Thomason was ordained at Fundamental Baptist Church in Pensacola, Florida in May, 1990. This church is now Marcus Pointe Baptist Church. You can see their website by going to www.marcuspointebaptist.org. This is an independent, fundamental Baptist Church.

You can get a quick glimpse into his philosophy of life based on his two mission statements.

My Personal Mission Statement - My goal in life is to develop my Spiritual gifts and natural talents so that I will be an example of a godly husband, father, and pastor; resulting in a godly wife, children, and church.

My Church Mission Statement - The primary purpose of the church is to glorify God in all we do. I believe this is done through Worship, Instruction, Fellowship & Evangelism..

He married Michelle October 28, 1995. This is her salvation testimony - I was born into a Christian home. My parents faithfully took our family to Sunday School and Church and sacrificed financially to have us in Christian School. I remember the day, at the age of 5, I began asking my mother about the things I was learning from the Bible. She quit what she was doing to answer my questions. She told me of Gods son, Jesus, who died for my sins and that if I believed in Him, I would go to heaven to be with God forever. She then led me in a simple prayer expressing my faith in Jesus to be my own personal Savior.

Dr. & Mrs. Thomason currently have one child - Jeremiah David, born 10/9/2000. Jeremiah is a healthy little boy for which Mom and Dad often give thanks to the Lord. It is their prayer that he will trust Christ as his Savior at the first opportunity he has to understand the gospel.
